Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy

Certificate in Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy

Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy teaches us to use and trust the wisdom of the body to heal the neurobiological reactions developed as a response to one-time or ongoing trauma. Developed by psychologists, social workers, and movement professionals, this method moves slowly allowing small pieces to be integrated through a variety of techniques catered specifically to each individual for their unique circumstances and experiences. While our bodies can often feel foreign or frightening, they also hold the keys to integrating pieces that fragmented during trauma and allowing us to once again feel “at home.”

New Meditation - Creating a Container

Creating a Container is a new guided meditation that allows us to place what is too much, what is irritating us just beneath the surface, into a container until we have more resources to appropriately respond. This gives us the opportunity to process those irritants into pearls. Click the picture to listen!

This class is a fusion of Hatha, Yin, and Restorative Yoga specifically designed to relax sore and over-used areas while strengthening and stretching corresponding muscles. By stretching, strengthening, and resting…this class will help keep the body strong and healthy for years to come! (It is not a requirement to work in these fields, but if you do…this class is for you!)

2021 Embodied Yoga Summit April 21st-25th

This free online event is truly a highlight for yoga practitioners and instructors alike by some of the top teachers in their fields. Not only can you attend live, but you can watch the recordings of that day’s classes (I believe) up to 24hrs after the class. If you are a teacher or practitioner on any level, have hit a wall in your practice or would like to take your practice deeper, or are interested in incorporating more somatic methods into your practice, I highly recommend taking advantage of this fantastic opportunity. I learned so much from last year’s summit and am looking forward to this year’s event!

Reiki Now Offered at Ocracoke Island Yoga Studio

“Exciting News! Ocracoke Island Yoga will now be offering Reiki Sessions in our beautiful studio with Reiki Master Desirée Christa Ricker.

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing during which the practitioner either hovers their hands above the body of the patient, or uses gentle touch to help remove blocks which may be causing tension or pain. This form of alternative healing works with the energetic body and the transference of universal life force to not only ease physical tension, but also remove mental, emotional and spiritual blocks. Due to its gentle nature it can be a fantastic option for those having suffered physical trauma who are uncomfortable with touch.

Desirée is of the Usui Lineage having studied under Reiki Master Karen Gordon in the powerful forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica. Her desire is to empower others to be active participants in their personal healing. She believes that each person has the responsibility to reclaim more peace in themselves and that this practice not only leads to the cultivation of peace on a global level but it allows individuals to gift the world with their unique contributions on whatever level they are guided to do so. It is her honor and privilege to do this work assisting others in transforming the debilitating into the expansive.”

Exciting Studio News

The Studio has Re-Opened!!

119097522_1203193573375489_3339069181743614257_n.jpg

Here is the release:

As of September 4, 2020, the North Carolina governor has announced that gyms, exercise facilities, and studios are allowed to reopen at 30% capacity. We will only be allowed to have 7 people in each class. This allows for plenty of social distancing with a minimum of 6 feet between mats in all directions so everyone stays safe and comfortable. Due to limited space It is very important that you do register for classes in advance.

Additionally, we will continue our commitment to keeping the studio sparkly clean and disinfected. Those efforts include:

•Disinfecting high-touch surfaces before and after each class.
•Cleaning the studio floor between every class
•Fog Sanitizing between each class
•Limiting studio entry to the side door
•Asking students to use hand-sanitizer before and after class
•Touchless soap dispensers
•Antibacterial sprays, gels, and wipes available throughout the studio
•Requiring students and teachers to wear masks if they cannot stay more than 6 feet from others (masks are not required to be worn during class and may be removed once you're ON your mat)
•Using only marked spaces on the practice floor to ensure physical distancing
•Requiring students to pre-register and pre-pay for all in-person classes online via the Venmo App @ocracoke-islandyoga, prior to class (no walk-ins allowed at this time)
•Limiting class duration to 60-minutes
•Curtailing the use of "loaner" mats and other equipment - please bring your own mat and props and plan to take them with you when you leave

As most of you know Ocracoke is very vulnerable with limited healthcare resources. We must do everything that we can to keep our tiny village healthy. In order to do that we ask that you:

•Stay home if you are sick, have any symptoms, or just don't feel well (not just for COVID-19, but a cold, the "regular" flu, or even allergies if you're super sneezy and coughing)
•Have, or may have been, exposed to someone who is or may be infected with COVID-19
•Have been exposed to anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, and is still within the recommended quarantine period
•Practice a "better safe than sorry" approach to coming into the studio - if you have any doubt, please stay home and feel free to message your teacher for a private online lesson.

If you plan to return to in-person classes:

•please know that you will be required to sign an in person liability waiver at the beginning of each class. ( we will provide sanitized pens and have waivers waiting for you at your marked spaces for your mat)
•Please arrive 5-10mins prior to class so that you can sanitize, get set up and sign your waiver.

In closing, my hope is that we are doing everything we can to make you feel comfortable enough to return to in-person classes at both the studio and our continued outdoor classes. We understand however that this is a personal decision and that you will come back at a time of your choosing, that feels right to you.

Thank you all for your continued support and words of encouragement. While it's great seeing all of you in outdoor and virtual classes, nothing replaces the human and social interaction we get from coming together and sharing our practice in the studio space! Can not wait to flow with you!

Namaste,

Savana

And in correlation with Capricorn, we focus on The Devil - that energy we all love to hate and hate to love. Say what you will about this enigmatic figure, it always keeps things interesting!

YOGAFEST!

June 1, 2020

Inaugural Celebration of Yoga and Ocracoke Island Yoga Studio

Unaffected by the 7-foot tsunami brought by Hurricane Dorian last September, Ocracoke Island Yoga Studio became the home of free yoga classes, Reiki sessions, acupuncture, massage, hair cuts and aromatherapy to aid our hurting community. During Covid-19, instructors offered donation-based classes via Zoom and in-person classes outside, but the studio is in need of our help. To help, but to also celebrate the place that brings the Ocracoke community strength and peace mind, body, and soul, we introduce to you: YOGAFEST!!! As we near the summer solstice we’re reminded to come together, celebrate and lift each other up by doing yoga! YogaFest is an all day fundraising event for Ocracoke Island Yoga on Saturday, June 13th with in-person and virtual classes, raffles, prizes and more.

Free Reiki Post-Dorian

Free Reiki was offered to the residents of Ocracoke Island at the Ocracoke Island Yoga studio. Residents were given 30 minute time slots during with Reiki Master Desirée Ricker. These residents have been through a lot since Hurricane Dorian sent a 7-foot storm surge over Ocracoke causing island-wide flooding and devastation. Following this initial day, other local practitioners teamed up to offer an additional date with over 5 practitioners offering 30 minutes of free Reiki over the course of several hours!

Aromatics International also donated hundreds of empty Essential Oil inhalers and glass bottles for the use of the Anti-Anxiety and Deep Loss inhalers that Desirée had been handing out to residents to help them navigate the emotional vulnerability of this difficult time. To donate to the ongoing relief and recovery efforts, please visit www.oirrt.org
