Hindsight is 2020
One day the antivaxer may stumble across a village plagued by measles. One day the provaxer may lose their six month old 24 hours after the baby’s vaccines are administered.

One day the pro-lifer may have their life saved by an abortion, one day a pro-choicer may have their only grandchild born from their 16 year old daughter who refused to give up on the baby inside of her.

One day the anti-gun person may have their life saved by someone to carries a gun. One day the pro-gun person may have a family member’s life taken by someone who should never have been sold a gun.

One day someone who lives holistically will lean into western medicine to save their life. One day a western doctor will find themselves in the jungle exploring plant medicine to escape a broken society and save their life.

One day the blue voter will fall in love with a red voter. One day a red voter will fall in love with a blue voter. One day someone who helped build the wall will fall in love with someone who snuck across the border to save their children’s lives.

One day you and I will regret saying something in hindsight we should have never said.

And today, we can accept that hindsight is 2020. All we have is today to show up as a human, ready to walk side by side with other humans, to do our best to create a sense of community wherever we are in the moment. Only today can we look at a stranger in the eye and say hello. Only today can we make a phone call to those we love. Only today can we share our good fortunes with those less fortunate. Only today can we stand up for all peoples freedom of choice to live their best human life. Only today can we choose to remember we are one human race. Only today can we acknowledge that the truth evolves, nothing is as it appears.

Today it’s time to take away the power from the idea that one individual can create a certain type of world. We are responsible for creating the world we desire to participate in. We are responsible for loving thy neighbor. We are responsible for allowing our views to shift and the real human desire to live in community to come alive. We want peace, health, love, and freedom for ourselves and our people. We must accept that we have to do the work to unite together and that no one man will be doing all the work, no matter what side you stand on.

Our human psyche needs attention. Our human hearts need attention. Our stubborn ways need attention. Our children need attention. Our planet needs attention. Our support systems need attention. Our connection to Creator needs attention.

We ALL have work to do. This is no longer the time to sit idly by and wait for someone to do the work. It’s time to remember what our ancestors knew, to remember how they lived together. It’s time To remember their medicines and tools, our medicines and tools. This is time for rituals in community, a time to build a space where we lean IN rather than away from one another. Today it’s time to sit together in our grief, our confusions, our yearnings for a new way...and perhaps we begin by looking back for the wisdom before we launch forward. Hindsight is often to have looked in the mirror a little sooner, to see the bird eyes view, to see the human forms sitting in front of us yearning for connection and purpose.

If one day is coming, perhaps today is the day we all humbly lay down our weapons and armor and join hands to admit, we all may have opinions but the only way forward is if we learn to walk together.

To my friends and strangers who refused to vote the lesser of two, I love you. To my friends and strangers who voted third party, I love you. To my friends and strangers who voted blue, I love you. To my friends and strangers who voted red, I love you. And WE ALL HAVE WORK TO DO. Let’s Rise Together.
